On This Day In History 6th February

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY - 6th FEBRUARY

On This Day in 1685, James-The-Second-Of-England-But-Not-For-Long, who was also James VII of Scotland, became King after his brother, Charles-The-Second-Thousandth-Hooker-Probably-Did-Me-In died.

King James II was deposed by his daughter, Mary, and her husband, William-Ate-Too-Many-Oranges, in what became known as the Glorious Revolution.

This was the second time someone called William invaded England to claim the throne. Must be something in the name.

If you know someone called William, better watch out for him. He's probably contemplating conquering your ass. Or horse. Whatever one you have.

On This Day In History in 1665, Queen Anne, who started out as Queen of England, Scotland, and Ireland, then became Queen of Great Britain, was born. She left no direct heirs, and was the last monarch of the House of Stewart.

On This Day in 1952, Queen Elizabeth II became Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain after her father George VI died.

She was in a tree house in Kenya at the time of her father's death, and was the first person in history to become a monarch whilst in a tree.

Fun Facts
George VI only became king because his older brother, Edward VIII, abdicated.
George VI was also the last King of Ireland, and the Last Emperor of India.
George VI saw action in World War I during the Battle of Jutland.
George VI was the first member of the Royal Family to become a qualified pilot.

On This Day in 1783, Lancelot Brown, better known as Capability Brown, died. He is also known as England's Greatest Gardener. The gardens and landscapes he designed are, quite simply, spectacular.

Celebrity Birthday
On This Day in 1966, Rick Astley was born.

He was an international singing sensation back in the 1980s. And he's the kind of guy that is never gonna give you up. He won't let you down, nor run around and desert you. He is never gonna make you cry, and, believe it or not, he won't say goodbye. And, above all, he won't tell a lie, and most importantly, he won't hurt you.

Vote Rick Astley for President.
