On This Day - 7th January

jvcullan.blogspot.co.ukON THIS DAY IN HISTORY - 7th JANUARY

On This Day, the 7th of January, 1610, Galileo Galilei, so good they named him twice, discovered the four Galilean moons; Ganymede, Callisto, Io, and Europa; and surmised they must be moons orbiting Jupiter.

Galileo was accused, tried, and found guilty of heresy by Pope It's-An-Urban-Jungle-Out-There (the 8th). We now know the Earth does go around the sun. And that some people react to things they don't understand out of fear.

Wait.

The Earth goes around the sun? The Earth isn't the centre of the universe?

You're blowing my mind.
